What is the difference between Table and Desk?

What are you imaged when you heard of words”table” and “desk”?Will you think of the same thing?Can you distinguish them clearly?Actually,many of us make a confusion about table and desk.Today I will shows the difference of them. 

1. The meaning

According to the dictionary,desk is an article of furniture having a broad, usually level, writing surface, as well as drawers or compartments for papers, writing materials, etc.

And a table in the dictionary means an article of furniture consisting of a flat, slab-like top supported on one or more legs or other supports.Another meaning of it means a piece of furniture specifically used for serving food.So we can know that a table includes a desk from some degree,but they are two different things.

2.The appearance

How to clearly know what is a table and what is a desk ?Though we have the definition of them,it’s still hard to image what they like.Actually,identifying differences between a table and a desk is a matter of "knowing it when you see it." We all know that desks and tables can provide a solid and flat surface for us, which usually is supported by vertical legs. Generally, a desk often has one chair for using,while a table can have many chairs.

From this picture we can see that desks are related to work, so a desk usually,but not always, includes drawers or shelves to store work-related material. The height of the desktop usually is limited to the range of comfortable utilization by a seated,or someone who sand by. Because they are often related to work or study, desks typically are used by only one person, who often "owns" it,such as Mike’s desk,Amy’s desk and so on.

The table is different from desk.What I mentioned above that table includes desk at some degree.So the table surfaces have many uses, such as eating , socializing around or playing games on, and also can provide a work surface in the kitchen or homework at the dining table. And due to this various uses,there are many kinds of tables in the market.They have different shapes and appearances.What’s more, the size and height varies, from large conference tables to small end tables and low coffee tables. Tables usually do not have built-in storage, except for coffee tables or coffee tables, which may include shelves, drawers or cabinets. Tables can be used by many people and are usually not associated with any particular person.

2. The function

Desks mainly use for study and work. Sometimes they may have other uses,while most of time we use for study and work.So when you use them for work,they are the ideal piece of furniture for your home and to store your computer, paperwork, supplies, and files. Pulling the chair up to the table and working for a long time is easy, and the flat surface will reach the perfect height for you to feel comfortable while working. Perhaps for this very reason, it's easy to access this area when you're working at your desk. Having a personal space where you can work or study makes it easy for you to focus without worrying about distractions. Of course, when you need to study, your desk is better than a table.

When we mentioned table we mean various shapes and different utilization of tables.Like we said above, tables are furniture with a flat surface that can be used in a variety of ways. They have legs to support them, although there are some tables that can be mounted on the wall and only lowered when needed. In addition, tables come in many different shapes, sizes and materials, and can be plain or ornate, depending on your preferences. So you can choose what you like.

4.The place

  Tables and desks both are placed in more flexible locations.However, a table is much more flexible than tables for its assorted uses.This piece of furniture is ideal for home use, where people need a flat surface that can be used in a variety of ways. This is better than a table in a home where there is not enough space for work or study, so it can be placed in different parts of the home. You can place it according to the design style you like.

Desks are fairly disposable, especially if they have been set up for a home office. This means that once computers and calendars are placed on the desk, they are usually not removed. As a result, this is not an ideal piece of furniture for families who need something with multiple functions. If you want a flat surface where family members can enjoy many different activities, a table may not be the best choice for you. It is more often placed in some fixed position that is convenient for working or studying. In fact, its inflexibility has a lot to do with its use. 

5. The chair of a table and a desk

Just like we mentioned above, a desk often has one chair for using,while a table can have many chairs.And because of this,although you are able to pull up more chairs to the desk if you want to show other people the thing you do, they will not be so comfortable as you. This is because there is no legroom on the desk built into it for other chairs.

While you can easily put many chairs on a table with legs, pedestal tables are even easier to squeeze together, allowing many people to sit together at once. Tables are usually set with chairs that match the style and shape of the table, but it's also fun to buy a table and a chair separately to create an eclectic, one-of-a-kind look.What I give above are just the main difference,actually tables and desks also different in shape,height and so on.
